Ròc na Gàidhlig 2007
22 March 2007

Modern Gaelic music is alive and kicking and ready to shake the Land of the Gaels from top to bottom. The first ever all-Gaelic rock and techno tour is currently underway through Ireland and Scotland and this historical event will culminate in a tremendous final night showdown right here at An Tuireann on March 31st at 8pm.

"I am really looking forward to this tour," said Raonaid Alcorn, the drummer in Là Luain, one of the rock bands on the tour, "but a little frightened, to tell the truth. It's gonna be crazy!" Raonaid is from Ireland originally, but learned Scottish Gaelic, and now she lives on our very own Isle of Skye, where Là Luain are based. The two musicians in Grá Gránna, the techno group on the tour, are split between Dublin and Edinburgh and they make their music in Irish. And to add a little weight to the bill, legendary rockers, Oi Polloi, are on the tour as well. Oi Polloi launched an all-Gaelic album last year that won many new listeners to the band. They have been on the road in Europe almost non-stop all last year, but this will be their first proper tour in Ireland and Scotland in a long time.

We are sooo excited to have these bands at An Tuireann. Punk, rock , techno, all in one night and all in Gaelic. Ticket prices are still to be confirmed, but it will be a nominal fee on the door.
