Guillemots To Join Crowded House On Sunday Main Stage At The Outsider
26 March 2007

Willy Mason Also To Appear At Scotland’s Coolest New Festival

Midsummer Weekend – 22-24 June 2007 At Rothiemurchus, Cairngorms

Guillemots, whose debut album – Through The Windowpane - was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2006, have been signed to perform at The Outsider Festival this summer. They will perform on the main stage supporting Crowded House on Sunday 24 June.

Guillemots are regarded as one of the UK’s hottest bands – their album was also voted as one of ten best in 2006 by Mojo readers. Their live performances are already the stuff of legend, whether it’s showering the audience with bubbles and confetti, or taking to the stage in an array of costumes: one rare performance of the song Bad Boyfriend saw the entire band don animal masks; their stage presence is nothing short of magical.

American singer-songwriter, Willy Mason, has also been announced to play alongside KT Tunstall on the Saturday. The son of folk singers Michael Mason and Jemima James, Mason has already supported Radiohead and Beth Orton this year.

His recently released second album - If the Ocean Gets Rough - has been critically acclaimed: (“Mason's songs draw on decades of brilliant American music. Everyone who sees Willy play is instantly mesmerized” NME, (“Mason’s voice is hugely appealing” The Times *4).

Last week The Outsider announced that the headline act for Saturday will be KT Tunstall and on Sunday Crowded House in their first Scottish gig since they reformed.

The Outsider is a new and unique event which brings together the opportunity to participate in a huge range of outdoor activities whilst enjoying bid name music and comedy acts. The festival has a strong environmental agenda celebrating the landscape and the open air. The activities will include the Merida Outsider Mountain Bike Event and Britain’s Most Beautiful Run, which feature in an exciting three-day celebration of Scotland’s great outdoors. Glenmore Lodge, Scotland’s acclaimed National Outdoor Training Centre will be working with The Outsider to provide the outdoor activities and many of the local 75 permanent activity providers will also be closely involved with the event.

Early Bird tickets offering substantial discounts are available until March 31st and can be booked through www.outsiderfestival.co.uk . Full price tickets go on sale on April 1st.

The Outsider, while core funded by Highland 2007 and with the Scottish Executive’s It’s Our Future campaign and Classic Malts as main sponsors, is also supported by HIE Inverness and East Highland, The Highland Council, the Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Rothiemurchus Arts Community Group. In its use of the festival location The Outsider is advised by Scottish Natural Heritage and Forestry Commission Scotland.
