Scottish Opera to tour Scotland this Spring with 'Die Fledermaus'
Scottish Opera to tour Scotland this Spring with 'Die Fledermaus'
26 March 2007

Scottish Opera will be touring to to Ayr, Dumfries, Dunfermline, Elgin, Forfar, Hamilton, Kelso, Oban, Stirling and Tain with their production of Johann Strauss Jnr's 'Die Fledermaus'.

Following the enormous success of Die Fledermaus in Autumn 2006, when sixteen out of nineteen performances sold out in record time, Scotland’s national opera company will once again be touring the north, south, east and west of the country with Johann Strauss’ universally popular operetta. With a cast of eight and seventeen-piece orchestra, Scottish Opera will once again delight audiences with this entertaining production.

Mistaken identities, flirtations at a masked ball, elegant frivolities and confusions of all kinds provide a delightful vehicle for some of the most captivating music ever written. The ball scene alone includes two of the best-known choruses in operetta, ‘The Champagne Chorus’ and the famous ‘Laughing Song’.

Director Lee Blakeley’s production brings Strauss’ masterpiece up to date with the staging wittily reflecting society’s current obsession with wealth, image and the culture of disposable celebrity.

Alex Reedijk, General Director of Scottish Opera commented, “Audiences loved this refreshing new take on an old favourite when we took it on the road last autumn. Now, with the addition of a seventeen-piece orchestra and visits to larger venues, even more people across Scotland will have the opportunity to experience first-class opera - demonstrating once again how seriously Scottish Opera takes its responsibility as the national opera company of Scotland”

Scottish Opera has an absolute winner on its hands, a knock-out production that features the best singing this side of the Edinburgh Festival……..upbeat, trendy, brilliantly co-ordinated…..that should have you falling about with laughter”
