Flook's Finnegan for Feis Rois
26 March 2007

This year’s Fèis Rois Inbhich (Adult Fèis Rois) has added another top international star musician to the tutor list with the confirmation of Flook’s Brian Finnegan. Flook currently hold the BBC Folk Awards Best Group title, and Brian is described as “a thrilling talent, marvellous technical dexterity, bold musical imagination and urgent tone combining in playing of breathtaking suppleness and delicacy”. He comes fresh from an extensive USA tour, and has been highly recommended as an excellent tutor.

Whistle and flute players have a fantastic array of tutors now arriving in Ullapool for the Adult Fèis on 5-7 May, and can enjoy learning at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The full team is Nuala Kennedy, now living in Aviemore, whose Celtic Connections 2007 New Voices work earned deservedly high praise, the legendary Cathal McConnell of Boys of the Lough, Claire Mann a highly skilled tutor and flute player and Fred Morrison. Fred has carved himself an international reputation with a powerfully exuberant, highly improvisational style which combines the Gaelic piping tradition of the Uists with contemporary and eclectic influences. One of the few pipers to achieved success in both the competitive piping and folk music scenes, Fred is a master of the Highland pipes and the bellows-blown Lowland or Border pipes, as well as playing Irish uillean pipes and low whistle.

“This really is an outstanding team, they all have so much talent to pass on to the Fèis tin whistle and flute participants. People are usually very surprised at how much they can develop over the three days and are all in for a great treat” said Rita Hunter, Fèis Rois Manager delighted to announce the full line-up.
