’The Voice Of The Sea’ by award winning writer Macdara Vallely, and featuring All Ireland champion pipe player Ivan Goff, comes to Inverness, Stratherrick and Carrbridge from 18 to 24 July.
This is a unique and entertaining Irish show that combines the talents of award winning writer/performer, Macdara Vallely who won the Edinburgh International Fringe First in 2004, and traditional Irish musician, Ivan Goff, formerly of Riverdance on Broadway and the Eileen Ivers Band.
'The Voice of the Sea' uses a magical mix of powerful live theatre and music to explore the island clearances which devastated Irish and Scottish Gaelic communities in the 20th century.
Macdara Vallely's latest play ‘Peacefire’ met with critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004 (5 stars ‘utterly compelling" The Scotsman; 4 stars – “A rattling good yarn ... Vallely performs exceptionally", The Guardian, "brave and brilliant' The Irish Times). It was awarded the Fringe First for excellence in writing and was shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. His first film entitled ‘The Love Bite’ won the award for Best Irish Short at the Galway Film Fleadh, Ireland's premier film festival and has been distributed internationally.
Ivan Goff, an All-Ireland champion from Dublin, plays uilleann pipes (Irish bellows-blown pipes), whistles and Irish wooden concert flute. Ivan has performed in several well-known productions including extended engagements with Riverdance (US tour and Broadway), Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance and has featured in several film scores.
This short Highland tour includes Glenuig (13 July – 8pm), Inverness Spectrum Centre (18 July – 8pm), Stratherrick Hall, Gorthleck (19 July – 8pm), Carrbridge (24 July – 8pm).
