Eden Court to reopen on 3rd November 2007
31 August 2007

COLIN MARR, the director of the Eden Court Theatre, yesterday unveiled plans for the reopening of the Inverness building following a major refurbishment.

Following delays and rising costs which saw the reopening of the theatre be delayed from an initial reopening date of Christmas 2006, the curtain will be raised again on 3rd November 2007.

The refurbished theatre will introduce an additional 270 seat venue to the complex, as well as two new cinemas seating 240 people, two drama studios, new dressing rooms, and upgraded bars and restaurant.

On announcing the reopening, Colin Marr said that the new theatre would generate £6 million a year for the area and would pay for itself several times over. He dismissed criticism that the theatre missed out on much of the Year of Highland Culture 2007.

There will be no gala reopening, but an opening season will commence on 3rd November with Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. The first season after reopening will also feature appearances from Lenny Henry, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, comedian Ardal O'Hanlan and Scottish Opera.

The second theatre will reopen with the premiere of The Sundowe, a brand new show developed as part of the “The Highland Quest for a New Musical”.
