Rody Gorman, poet and translator in Gaelic and English left for Macedonia on September 3rd. He will spend a month at Art Point Gumno along with a visual artist from the U.S.A.
Rody will also attend the 10th Ohrid International P.E.N Conference from 13th-16th September to further explore creative links.
He has been working with P.E.N International in Skopje on translations by Dragi Mihajlovski of an anthology which he edited of contemporary Scottish Gaelic verse with English versions. The editor-in-chief of the overall translation project (DIVERSITY), Katala Kulavkova has described the translated anthology as a “unique part of the cultural diversity of Europe”.
The diverse cultures of the Balkans are respected amongst the artistic communities that exist there and DIVERSITY is one of several initiatives instigated by Balkan artists whose cultural influences cross the divide between east and west, and past and present.
There will be regular BLOGS on the HI~Arts and Cromarty Arts Trust websites by Rody and an event at The Stables in November related to his work in Macedonia.
