BBC SCOTTISH SYMPHONY ORCHESTA THURSDAY 8 NOVEMBER 8.00PM AT EDEN COURT
Eden Court’s much anticipated new Concert Season will begin with a splendid BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra performance which will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
The concert, under the baton of Stefan Solyom, the BBC SSO’s associate guest conductor, opens with the overture to ‘Die Fledermaus’ - the most popular of all Strauss’s operettas.
This is followed by Hummel’s high spirited and technically demanding concerto; an ideal vehicle for the talents of celebrated trumpeter Alison Balsom who has recently won the Classic FM Listeners' Choice and Gramophone Awards, and Young British Performer at the Classical BRIT Awards.
The evening closes with one of the best known works in the repertoire, Dvorák’s New World Symphony.
