The Watermill Gallery in Aberfeldy will be featuring a collection of five ceramics by Pablo Picasso alongside works by Miro, Moore and Hepworth in its Christmas Modern Masters Print Exhibition, which opens on 3rd November.

Internationally famed for his paintings, sculpture, and graphics, Picasso worked with the Madoura pottery to produce limited edition ceramics between 1946 and 1971.

Over the years Picasso and the Madoura studio produced a wide range of plates, bowls, vases and pitchers, in limited editions ranging from 25 to 500. Picasso's involvement in producing the objects varied. Sometimes he made the clay moulds used for designs, while other times he painted on plates or pitchers taken from the drying racks. Picasso and Madoura's artisans then finished the prototypes and produced the editions.

Gallery owner Kevin Ramage said, ‘Last year we sold ceramics by Picasso in Aberfeldy for the first time, so we are really pleased to be able to offer a wider range of these works this year to follow on from the recent exhibition of Picasso’s ceramics ‘Fired with Passion’ at the National Museum’.

‘I think it is a considerable achievement for Highland Perthshire that people who were unable to get to Edinburgh will be able to see a selection of these works by Picasso in Aberfeldy’.

‘In addition our range of fifty prints by some of the most sought-after names in 20th century art gives a unique insight into many strands of modern art in Britain and further afield. We hope that the widest possible audience of art-lovers will be able to take the opportunity to view this collection at The Watermill.’

The exhibition, which runs until 13th January, also includes works by contemporary Scottish artists Kate Downie and Hetty Haxworth.
