One of the world’s premier specialist film festivals opens next week. The Lake District will play host to Kendal Mountain Film Festival, which has grown into the biggest festival of its type in the UK and an event of global renown. Thousands of film and outdoor enthusiasts will descend on the Lake District town for the event, which builds up to a three day programme of films, lectures, seminars and other entertainment from 16th-18th November.
Kendal Mountain Film Festival, presented by Berghaus and North West Regional Development Agency, has grown from humble origins in 1980 and now has an international reputation, built on great content, outstanding speakers and a genuine, inclusive and convivial atmosphere. Not only do visitors get to view and review an extensive programme of new and classic mountain related films, they will also rub shoulders with some of the world’s most respected (and in some cases revered) climbers, film makers and photographers. The big-screen premiere of The Beckoning Silence, follow up to the BAFTA-award winning Touching The Void, is set to be one of the highlights of the festival, but is only one of over 40 films on show.
Over the years, Kendal Mountain Film Festival has hosted lectures and seminars involving many of the world’s great climbers and adventurers. This year is no different, with Sir Chris Bonington, Doug Scott and Sir Ranulph Fiennes all making appearances. The full programme can be found at
