‘Ullapool hits the Big Screen…..A Musical and Visual Journey around North West Scotland to mark 10th birthday’
30 January 2008

The Music of Composer James Douglas, as featured in the BBC series ‘Sahara with Michael Palin,’ has been performed all over the world; and on Thursday 6th March 2008 at the Macphail Centre, Ullapool, his music will be performed alongside a enticing Visual Journey around North West Scotland, featuring many photographs taken by his wife Helen Douglas.

This Musical and Visual Journey is being presented to mark the 10th birthday of Ullapool Music Publisher: Caritas Music Publishing. The photographs provide a wonderful journey from both the north and south of North West Scotland; to cities in Scotland; as well as some overseas photos of interest and will be accompanied by a Soundtrack played by James Douglas on the Piano. The music will include many popular tracks by James Douglas and will showcase his most memorable pieces to date including popular favourites: ‘The Ullapool Fanfare,’ ‘Nocturnal,’ ‘Peace of the Highlands’ and ‘Torridon.’

James’ music has always been influenced by his love of mountains, lochs, seascapes and the countryside of North West Scotland and for the first time this will be able to be seen visually through photographs, with 2 x 30 minute films of his wife’s images accompanied by his music. A reception will be held with light refreshments provided during the interval to mark this anniversary in Caritas’ life and a chance will be available to both talk to and to meet James and Helen Douglas.

Tickets are now on sale in The Ullapool Bookshop (01854 612 918) or The Macphail Centre (01854 613336) priced £6.00 (£4 all concessions welcomed) and £2.50 for all school age pupils (includes interval refreshments and a Programme), Concert begins 7.30pm.
