SCOTTISH OPERA SPRING TOUR 2008
NEW PRODUCTION OF CINDERELLA
1 – 26 APRIL 2008

CINDERELLA
By Gioacchino Rossini

sung in English
running time: approx 2 hours 15 minutes

Supported by:
The Gannochy Trust , JTH Charitable Trust & Eda, Lady Jardine Charitable Trust

Scotland’s national opera company once again takes to the road this Spring with a brand new production of Rossini’s Cinderella. Following the sell out success of our Autumn Tour, Cinderella returns this spring and will visit a further 9 venues, accompanied by an ensemble from The Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

The young director Harry Fehr makes his directing debut with Scottish Opera in this enchanting production set during the Regency period, with all the style and elegance of Jane Austen’s world. Rossini’s Cinderella is a showcase for beautiful music and exquisite singing, emerging from one of the most popular fairy tales ever written.

Director Harry Fehr says, “Scottish Opera nurtured me in my early career as an assistant director and I’m delighted to be making my debut with a national company back in Scotland. I’ve been fortunate to be teamed with a cast of dynamic young singers who have taken this journey into the world of Rossini’s ‘dramma giocoso’ (funny drama) with me.”

Nicholas Ransley sings the role of the prince, Don Ramiro, and Caryl Hughes makes her debut with Scottish Opera as the Cinderella figure, Angelina.

Scottish Opera’s General Director Alex Reedijk says, "I am delighted that we will back on the road in Spring with this nine-date tour of Rossini's Cinderella. Harry Fehr and his team of young and talented singers have taken a classical approach to this delightful opera which I am sure will please audiences across Scotland. This reach of this tour from Tainr to Dumfries shows just how seriously the Company takes its responsibility as the national opera company of Scotland.”
