Galway, Wednesday 16th April 2008- Top UK TV Executive and Big Brother Producer Phil Edgar Jones, is just one of the big names lined up to speak at tomorrow's second day of the Celtic Media Festival in Galway.(Thursday 17th April).
Edgar-Jones, who is Creative Director of Brighter Pictures has overseen production on many of Endemol UK's biggest entertainment shows including Big Brother (Channel 4; E4); Celebrity Big Brother (Channel 4; E4) and Celebrity Scissorshands (BBC Three). He will offer advice to 3rd level media students attending the festival on how to get ahead in television.
Other well known figures attending tomorrow's event include acclaimed playwright Eugene O' Brien BAFTA winning writer Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, The Streets) and renowned documentary filmmaker Paul Watson (Malcolm and Barbara: A Love Story) and acclaimed playwright Eugene O' Brien.
McGovern will participate in a 'High Drama' seminar, where a guest panel, featuring producer Ed Guiney, BBC NI's Kevin Jackson and producer Cilian Fennell, will examine the role drama plays in a broadcaster's schedule.
Watson, who is credited with pioneering fly- on- the wall documentary film making and nominated for a 2008 BAFTA Television Award will participate in a public interview with broadcaster Doireann Ni Bhrian.
Tomorrow afternoon,(Thursday 17th April), TG4's Daithi O Se and RTE's Mary Kennedy will announce winners and present awards in six categories including Feature Length Drama, Short Drama, Young People, Animation, Documentary Feature and Drama Series.
Entrants from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany will be competing for the eagerly sought after Bronze Torcs for Excellence.
Highlight of the awards ceremonies will be the Gala Dinner on Friday night where the prestigious Spirit of the Festival Gold Torc will be presented alongside Radio Station of the Year, the Frank Copplestone Award for First time Director and the Jury Award.
