The first question asked is “take it you like Nirvana then?” to which we usually reply “Who?”. Heart Shaped Box is about as far removed from Nirvana as Heaven is from Hell! A three piece vocal harmony group from Inverness, the ‘Box’ perform original material written by various members of the group with … to continue the Nirvana metaphor… a heavenly blend of male and female voices that would have Kurt Cobain turning in his grave to listen! The second question invariably asked is “Who are you like?” Whilst we are far too modest to ever claim equality with legends such as the Mamas and the Papas or Fleetwood Mac, these bands have been mentioned by others when talking about Heart Shaped Box. Formed in 2006 in Heart Shaped Box are Debbie Mackenzie, Helena Stewart and Terry Small. Having showcased a couple of times at a local Singer/Songwriter session in the renowned Hootenanny’s, the ‘Box recently supported the fabulous Salsa Celtica at Inverness’s hottest live music venue, the Ironworks. With ambitions to play at festivals throughout Scotland this summer, under the guidance of Terry Small, respected producer, guitarist, songwriter and vocalist, Heart Shaped Box are aiming high. The fantastic blend of voices appeals to anyone who loves good music, great songwriting and fantastic close vocal harmonies.
