Cinema Reviews

HI~Arts has been bringing the big screen cinema experience to the Highlands and Islands since 1998, via its two mobile cinemas Screen Machines One and Two.

Screen Machine One is currently filling in for Eden Court’s Riverside Cinema in Inverness during its extensive redevelopment period; since April 2005 Screen Machine Take Two has been regularly touring to over twenty venues, as well as providing facilities for special events such as Cowalfest in Argyll and the Celtic Media Festival on Skye.

More recently HI~Arts has hosted the two year pilot project Rural Cinema North, in partnership with Eden Court Theatre and North East Arts Touring (NEAT). The aim of Rural Cinema North is to promote cinema as an art form, and to make a wider range of films accessible to more rural communities. Rural Cinema North offers advice and support to new film societies through the Virtual Film Club website, and stages occasional special events, in Screen Machine and other venues.

Exciting new changes are afoot in Scottish cinema exhibition, and HI~Arts is currently exploring ways to develop cinema provision in rural areas across Scotland, through an expanded Screen Machine service and lessons learnt from the Rural Cinema North pilot. Watch this space!
