New York based classical guitarist Peter Griggs returns to Inverness on Thursday 3rd April 2008 to perform in the latest promotion of the Inverness Arts Forum Lunchtime Concert Series in the Town House.
Peter Griggs divides his time between delighting audiences in his native New York City and touring the world as a twenty-first century minstrel. Equally adept with the music of his beloved Brazil as he is with the classical repertoire, in “500 Years of Music for Guitar”, he will present an overview of music for the modern guitar from the Renaissance to the Contemporary. Music by composers as diverse as John Dowland, Gaspar Sanz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bartolome Calatuyud, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Thelonious Monk will be performed along with several of Griggs' own compositions.
On his last visit his performance concentrated on music from South America and earned him this comment in the Inverness Courier, “A splash of Brazilian and Caribbean sunshine on a dismal Inverness day! Guitarist Peter Griggs
proved an accomplished technician with a good feel for the idioms of Brazilian music.”
“500 Years of Music for Guitar” by Peter Griggs is at 1.00pm on Thursday 3rd April 2008 in the Main Hall of Inverness Town House. Tickets are available on the door at £4. Concessions £3.
