Tional - A Gaelic Language Gathering
Tional - A Gaelic Language Gathering
27 March 2008

Tional is a vibrant, family-orientated Gaelic language gathering on Saturday 5th April at Inverness Gaelic Primary School.  Whatever your understanding of Gaelic, from complete beginner to fluent native speaker, there is an activity for you at Tional.

Range of activities for you to take part in include:

Traditional Conversational Gaelic classes
Ulpan – for beginners and intermediate learners
Singing workshop
Gaelic Question Time
Gaelic footsteps – storytelling and walk
Family sports session
Tae Kwon-Do

Ùlpan is the new method of learning Gaelic. It brings hope and encouragement to thousands of learners who struggle to reach fluency. Currently these classes have a waiting list, but we will have two levels of classes for you to try at Tional. Both levels are for the full day.

Book online at www.tional.org

There will be the ever popular full-day conversational classes aimed at the more advanced students.

Interested in keep-fit? Then try an hour session of Tae Kwon-Do. It gets the heart racing, the blood pumping and you will come away with some Gaelic words at the same time. Session available in the morning and afternoon

If you are interested in flexing your vocal cords, then book yourself onto the full day Singing workshop. Ishbel MacAskill, the well known and respected Gaelic singer will take the workshop. You don’t need to be able to speak Gaelic or have sung before, just bring your enthusiasm and we will supply the words and music.

Go to www.tional.org to see the legacy of last year’s event & book online.

Why not try football, long jump or throwing the welly! These are all activities for families to try in our family sports sessions. This activity is suitable for all from 5 years to 99 years. Book onto the morning or afternoon session for over 2 hours of family fun. For those people with young children who want to attend the other activities there is also a crèche for babies and young children available, see the website for details. (subject to demand).

Gaelic footsteps, storytelling and walk, Ruairidh MacIlleathain, the broadcaster and writer will take you on a gentle walk and cover many aspects of the rich Gaelic heritage of the Highland capital. If you are interested in the history and heritage of Inverness, and of the Highlands in general, this walk is for you! The morning session is aimed at the those with no or limited Gaelic, the afternoon session is for those with a greater understanding of Gaelic. This session is suitable for families with pushchairs

The finale is a Gaelic Question Time with members of the audience invited to ask questions to our panel of three. These panelist come from the Gaelic media world, the political arena, the Gaelic public bodies and from the traditional music world. This session will have translators for both English and Gaelic.

In the evening there will be a Cèilidh. This is to celebrate the commitment and progress by participants attending Ulpan classes in Inverness. There will be a variety of musicians and a chance to dance the night away and practice some Gaelic. All participants from Tional are invited to attend. The cost is £5 per person.
