On 20th June, Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop (LFW) picked up a prestigious award at the Third Force News Scottish Charity Awards in Glasgow. Shortlisted for the second consecutive year, the Workshop went one better this year in scooping the Community Action Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement for work in the community.
Starting out in 2002, LFW has revolutionized traditional music tuition in rural Argyll through their work with the community. From humble beginnings as a small group playing occasional concerts, their programme has increased to weekly lessons for 70 children across four primary schools, 'Come and Try' sessions for hundreds of participants and regular adult tuition and concerts. Awards such as this are a great way for arts and crafts groups to celebrate their achievements. They can also come with good prizes attached and are a useful way to communicate your worth to funders. We try to highlight as many awards as possible in the VAScotland e-newsletter - so keep looking out for them.
