Brown’s Gallery, Tain, celebrates its first major exhibition in the recently extended gallery with a mixed show of new work. Entitled ‘New Summer Show ‘08’ and beginning Monday 7 July 2008, the exhibition will feature work by established artists including John Bellany, John Byrne and Neil MacPherson as well as introducing and welcoming back artists including Fin MacRae, Blair Cunningham, Colin Brown, Jennifer Houliston and Kate Downie.

Gordon Brown, owner of Brown's Gallery, commenting on the new extension, said: “I think a lot of people questioned the sense and whether or not I was going to pull it off. Certainly there were times when I began to wonder if it was ever going to get finished. The gallery had to grow up and with the additional space in the old bakehouse it has done so with spectacular effect.

The new gallery speaks for its self and has proved to be a huge success. Most people welcomed it, happy to see an old building saved and brought back into use.

I hoped it would surprise and reassure visitors to the gallery that they had indeed happened across a gallery comparable with anything to be found in the cultural centres in the south. It reflects the growing confidence and quality of the work to be found within.”
