Artists to open their studios in Big Tree Country
Want to see an artist at work in their studio and get the chance to see over 100 artists exhibit work during one event? The first-ever Perthshire Open Studios is your opportunity, with 120 artists taking place in 74 venues across the heart of Scotland over 9 days between 27th September and 5th October.
The idea behind the event came about in 2007 when a small group of artists and makers got together with the aim of promoting the creative community in the Perth and Kinross area. As a result the Perthshire Open Studios project was born and over the following months the initiative gathered support from a growing membership and plans for the inaugural event in the autumn of 2008 began to take shape.
Artist and chairperson of the organising committee, Luisa Ramazzotti said, “Perth and Kinross is home to a large number of artists and makers who produce a great variety of original works of art. Many are also internationally known and here is a fantastic chance to meet them in their own surroundings. Visiting the studios will give you the opportunity to understand where the artists’ inspiration comes from and see how they work. Most artists will have work in progress or will give demonstrations and will be happy to answer your questions. Other artists might run workshops and you may even be tempted to have a go yourself.”
You will find paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, wood carving, stained glass, jewellery, metalwork, installation and much more available in the wide variety of studio spaces. All venues will offer original artwork for purchase or provide an opportunity to commission pieces directly from the artist or maker. The event brochure, which is available from July, lists each artist or participating gallery and will give directions, routes to follow and recommended places to eat to help make your visit an enjoyable experience.
The Perthshire Open Studios is supported by Perth and Kinross Council Arts Development service and is set to be a big attraction this autumn. For further information on the event with details of participating artists visit the official website at www.perthshireopenstudios.com
