The Ullapool Experience - a Visual and Musical Journey
30 July 2008

Caritas Music Publishing is delighted to exclusively announce that one of Scotland’s leading Composers James Douglas, is holding a magnificent celebration Concert for his new work called ‘The Ullapool Experience’ at The Macphail Theatre, Ullapool on Thursday 21st August, 7.30pm.

On the menu that night will be not only be a fabulous Concert featuring the highly accomplished talents of James Douglas, an international concert pianist; his daughter Katharine Douglas, Soprano, who will sing the title track of their recent CD: Peace of the Highlands, plus this also will feature another member of their enterprising family: Helen Douglas, wife of James, with a multimedia display of many of her stunning photographs, compiled over a 5 year period, including photos of selected cities in Europe, Scotland and of course her home in the North West of Scotland.

People have asked which came first the music or the photographs and it is a fascinating tale: The Composer James Douglas has been writing music for the Highlands and Islands for over 40 years now and in 2006 launched his ‘Highlands and Islands Sequence’ to high praise and admiration from those who live and work in the area. The idea then arose that Helen had been taking photos about many of the places that James had written music about and now The Ullapool Experience fulfils their ideas and dreams and they hope that many people will come to see and hear their project. Much of the music featured in the Concert, such as ‘To Loch Assynt,’ ‘Summertime Song,’ ‘Nocturnal’ and ‘The Ullapool Fanfare’ has been recorded and is currently on sale locally, with CDs also to be on sale at the Concert itself.

James, Helen and Katharine Douglas are celebrating a unique Concert and hope that by performing ‘The Ullapool Experience,’ visitors as well as those who live in the places featured in the music, such as Ullapool, Lochinver, Poolewe, Inverness and Torridon will all be inspired by areas they know and love as well as those they maybe don’t know so well (yet!).

All welcome, Tickets Adults: £6 (£4 all concessions welcomed) and £2.50 for school pupils, families welcomed. Ticket Price includes Wine, Soft Drinks or Nibbles during the Interval. On sale now from: Ullapool Bookshop (01854 612 918) or The Macphail Centre (01854 613 336)
