Tanera Mor stamp launch
06 August 2008

The International Artists' Workshop chose the Summer Isles as their venue for 2007, utilizing accommodation in the Schoolhouse on the main island of Tanera Mor. The artist Saki Satom decided that she would create a unique map of the island that could be used as the design for a future Summer Isles stamps' issue. Saki hails from Tokyo, Japan and lives in London at present.

In carefully researching the cartography and history of this area to which she feels strongly attached, Saki noticed inconsistencies among recent maps, including the Ordnance Survey, which differed in exact locations of landmarks and spelling of Gaelic place-names. After surveying the terrain, consulting older maps and speaking to acquaintances on and near the island, she created a map which, she believes, is more faithful to the island and its history. Rumour also has it that, inspired by a legend that smugglers buried loot somewhere on the island, Saki assembled and buried treasure of her own in the vicinity of Mealla Mor...

The postage stamp launch is at approx. 12 noon, 7th August at the Summer Isles Post Office, Tanera Mor.
There will be a small stamp launch ceremony that Saki Satom will open by cutting a red ribbon. Everyone is invited.
