Something Wicked This Way Comes (Catherine Wheels & National Theatre of Scotland Co-production)

Written and adapted by Ray Bradbury, directed by Gill Robertson, designed by Karen Tennent, lighting designed by Paul Sorley, choreography by Christine Devaney, with music composed and performed by David Paul Jones. The creative team also includes: Video Artist, Jonathan Charles; Aerial Designer/Technician, Jonothan Campbell and Aerial Artist, Jennifer Paterson.

The full cast is: Andrew Clark, Anthony Eden, Michael Gray, Sean Hay, David Paul Jones, Graham Kent, Veronica Leer, Robin Mason, Patrick Mulvey and Jennifer Paterson.

Something Wicked This Way Comes, an updated adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s coming-of-age classic is touring from 1 October to 2 November, with two preview performances in September. Platform at the Bridge (17 September), The Byre Theatre (27 September), Dundee Rep Theatre (1 to 4 October), Macrobert, Stirling (7 October), Eden Court, Inverness (10 and 11 October), Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh (15 to 18 October), The Lowry, Salford (23 to 25 October), and Tramway, Glasgow (29 October to 2 November). The press performance is at Dundee Rep Theatre on Thursday 2 October at 7.30pm

Something Wicked This Way Comes is a supernatural coming-of-age story that follows two teenage boys, Jim and Will, whose adventures unfold as the Cooger and Dark carnival rolls into town. The production is performed by an ensemble of eight actors and two musicians using an inspiring array of theatrical techniques, including video art and aerial performance.

Adapting his own novel for the stage, the legendary Ray Bradbury has created a spine-tingling battle between good and evil, packed with a terrifying collection of characters including the mysterious flying Dust Witch and the deadly Mr. Dark.

Ray Bradbury is one of America’s greatest writers. Over the span of his illustrious career, Bradbury has penned hundreds of short stories, more than thirty books, poems, essays and scripts for theater, radio, film and opera. His most famous books include Fahrenheit 451, Dandelion Wine and The Martian Chronicles.

He has received numerous awards such as the Pulitzer Prize, the O. Henry Memorial Award, Benjamin Franklin Award, Aviation-Space Writer's Association Award, World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Jules Verne Award and the Grand Master Award from the Science Fiction Writers of America. He also received the PEN Center USA West Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

Many of Bradbury's works have been adapted for television and film, among them The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (based on Bradbury's story The Fog Horn), Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451 (based on the novels of the same name).

Director Gill Robertson is the founder and Artistic Director of Catherine Wheels. She has worked as a director and actor throughout Scotland. Her credits as a director include Lifeboat and Cyrano for Catherine Wheels; The Purple Potting Shed for Topiary Dance; Cinderella and Spend a Penny for Shona Reppe Puppets; Chasing Angels for Complete Productions; Giant Steps and Bill’s New Frock for Visible Fictions. As a performer: Martha, Red and Frankenstein for Catherine Wheels; Cinderella and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Brunton Theatre; The Snow Baby and Holly and Ivy, both Catherine Wheels/ macrobert Christmas co-productions.

Catherine Wheels is one of the UK’s leading children’s theatre companies, with an audience base across the world. The Company’s most recent productions include Martha, which is currently touring Scotland, Lifeboat which has just returned from Australasia where it was the first Scottish children's theatre production to be performed at Sydney Opera House and The Lion of Kabul, which has been invited to be part of this year's Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival. Catherine Wheels’ award–winning production of Hansel and Gretel, (originally produced by the National Theatre of Scotland as Home: East Lothian) will be the Barbican Theatre’s Christmas show in 2008.
