Invitation to a visual arts and crafts day for Skye and Lochalsh
21 August 2008

There will be a visual arts and crafts day on Wednesday 17 September at Sabhal Mor Ostaig in Sleat, Isle of Skye.

The day will be aimed at; artists and makers, studio and gallery owners, community visual arts groups, development organisation or individuals living and working or connected with the development of the visual arts and crafts in Skye and Lochalsh.

The day will explore and agree some key aspirations and priorities, identify the steps we need to take in the short and mid term to achieve them. It will be an opportunity for the visual arts community to consider possibilities for the future, new or alternative ways of working and exhibiting and ensuring quality work from anywhere is accessible to the wider community.

Your views are extremely important in helping to shape a five year strategy for Skye Lochalsh, Wester Ross and Lochaber. This research will help to secure a sound infrastructure for the visual arts and crafts. It is part of the remit of the newly appointed Visual arts coordinator Rosie Somerville. The post is partnership between Highland Council, HI-Arts & the Scottish Arts Council.

The day held on the stunning Sabhal mor Ostaig campus is free. It will involve small, facilitated discussion groups. There will be lunch, coffee and teas during the day. Details to follow.

To register interest please respond by Monday 25 August to: rosie@hi-arts.co.uk  or phone 01470 532 436 & 07765716962
