Pitlochry Festival Theatre - new programme of events
08 October 2008

Our ‘other Season’ programme of concerts and events is now a fantastic blend of established festivals, such as Perthshire Amber and Winter Words, both of which have become firm fixtures in Scotland’s cultural calendar, and a host of other entertainment, from opera weekends to tribute bands” said John Durnin, PFT’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director. He continued: “This Season, we have a lineup designed to attract visitors from throughout the UK, as well as local audiences. Whatever the season, Pitlochry always offers an unrivalled combination of a warm welcome, wonderful entertainment and beautiful landscapes - it’s the perfect place for a night out, a short break with friends and family, or for groups looking for that special event.

We kick start the Season with Perthshire Amber – Scotland’s ‘best small music festival’ - featuring once again, five headline concerts from Dougie MacLean over two weekends, and including appearances from Benny Gallagher and Deaf Sheppard and a host of daytime events from workshops and talks to open mic sessions. Several new events feature for the first time this Season: we pay a Centenary tribute to Stephane Grappelli with the John Etheridge Quartet and there’s hair-raising mountaineering adventures in Vertigo, while the slide guitar and blues harmonica skills of Johnny Dickinson and Paul Lamb combine for an outstanding concert. We also bring you Showaddywaddy - the ‘70s pop group who recreate the music of the 1950s in their own unique style - and Desperado, the best Eagles tribute band performing today. In December, Ballet Russe bring their magnificent Swan Lake to the Pitlochry stage - make sure you get your ticket for this festive, three performance treat.

Returning favourites include Swansea City Opera, with two different shows in one weekend, Duncan Chisholm & Ivan Drever, John Scrimger & Guests, fiddle legend Pete Clark and the Easter Weekend extravaganza which features the Scottish Puppet Animation Festival as well as our annual Doors Open Day.

The lineup for Winter Words, our four day literature festival in the depths of Winter, features international literary stars from Janice Galloway, Stephen McGinty and Esther Woolfson, to Erica Munro and Sharon Blackie. Younger readers will be entertained by the wonderful Julia Donaldson, author of Gruffalo, which has become one of the world’s best-loved children’s books, with more than 3.5 million copies already sold.

The full Winter Words programme will be available in November, so make sure you phone or email our Box Office to get a copy of the brochure or visit: www.pitlochry.org.uk  to purchase tickets online and stay in touch with the latest developments and news.

Within our much-in-demand Active Arts programme, we’ve scheduled in some new activities, such as Framing on a Budget and an Art Nouveau Painting Workshop, whilst continuing to feature firm favourites such as our Watercolour Weekends, Digital Photography and a Directing Masterclass.
