| 09 October 2008 Out of the Darkness Theatre Company (ODTC) has an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with Kathakali, a theatre company from Kerala in Southern India, on the Scottish leg of their tour. Tina McGeever, the Artistic Director met with the Kathakali Company last year. They were so impressed by ODTC that they decided to extend their tour to Scotland in order to work with the Elgin based company and perform at Elgin Town Hall on 28th October. ODTC were delighted to receive £15,000 in funding from Lankelly Chase to support the tour In June they spent a week in Elgin training the performers from ODTC in Mudras and informing them about their work. ODTC started rehearsals in September in preparation for the tour in October. They perform in Elgin, Findhorn, the Black Isle, Skye and Glasgow. Four performers and two technicians will work alongside professional performers and technicians. ODTC will provide the overture, “Kiratam” (the Hunter) from the Mahabharata, prior to the main Kathakali performance. This popular story with humour and wit is performed regularly in the villages of Kerala. Out of the Darkness Theatre Company will tell the story through a fusion of Indian and Celtic cultures and will combine the Mudras, sign language of Kathakali, and Makaton, sign language for people with learning difficulties, within the piece. Elgin Performance 28th October at 7pm, Elgin Town Hall For more details about ODTC’s work including Social Awareness Training, please visit their web site: http://www.odtheatre.org.uk or contact Tina McGeever on 01343 543500 | |
