KINGUSSIE FOOD ON FILM FESTIVAL’S
09 October 2008

On Thursday 18th September 27 students and 7 staff from 6 schools across the Highlands converged on Kingussie High School to take part in a day long workshop on film-making with Triple Echo Productions – a local production company of many year’s experience that is currently producing BBC 2’s Adventure Show.

Students from as far away as Wick, Golspie and Farr joined others from Alness, Culloden and Kingussie to learn camera and sound techniques, editing and music composition, story telling and interview techniques from Triple Echo Productions director Margaret Wicks and her colleague Andrew Chadwick. Working alongside them were Brian Dziennik of Kingussie High School and local film maker and organiser of the event Helen Graham.

The workshop was put on by Kingussie Food on Film Festival, a joint venture that was launched in February of this year by Kingussie High School and The Auld Alliance Gourmet Academy. The aim of the workshop was to equip students with skills to make short films for next February’s Food on Film Festival, encouraging them to take part in the
new Highland Youth Award for Short Food Films that will be launched on February 6th, the opening night of the festival. Students were encouraged to come along and see their films being screened and enjoy a glamorous red carpet night, complete with film industry judges, a cash prize, complimentary food and drink and live bands.

Students and staff were delighted with the day and said it exceeded their expectations. They all said they were inspired to make a film and would be entering the competition, and some already had ideas they were developing.

With funding confirmed from The Cairngorms National Park and a prestigious line up of film industry judges and celebrity chefs already committed to the event, next February’s Kingussie Food on Film Festival looks set to be a great gathering.
