Body Currents Ceilidh Night Takes to the Floor in Skye
25 January 2010

A night of traditional dancing will be combined with Flamenco and Bollywood taster workshops when the Body Currents Ceilidh Night takes to the floor at Dornie Hall on Saturday 30th January 2010.

With dancing for all the family to tunes provided by the Cast Ewe ceilidh band, and a variety of performances from Broadford Junior Youth Dance and Kyle Youth Dance, the evening will be packed to the rafters with dance, fun and music.

The ceilidh, which will begin at 7:30pm will be hosted by Alex Emerson and Lorayne McLucas, the Body Currents dance catalysts, who have been running a range of workshops, events and dance classes in the Skye and Lochalsh area over the past few months.

Through the Body Currents programme the dance catalysts will continue to provide a wide range of dynamic collaborative dance workshops over the next few months for people of all ages and all abilities who are interested in learning dance styles including Hip Hop, Street, Latin and Jazz.

The culmination of the Dance Catalysts residency will be a two-day spectacular large-scale outdoor performance of dance and music at Eilean Donan Castle on 19th and 20th of March 2010.

Alex Emerson, says: Prior to Christmas, Lorayne and I were teaching a range of dance styles to a wide variety of people in Skye and Lochalsh and we have put together a new timetable of events for the New Year. Dancing is the perfect way to have fun, meet new friends, learn a new skill and even work off some of those Christmas calories without even realizing youre doing it! The ceilidh night will be a great evening of music and dance and we will also be running a raffle to raise money for the Dornie Youth Club. We hope that families and friends from all around the region will be able join us for a good knees up!

Body Currents is based in four Highland areas Skye and Lochalsh, Caithness, Badenoch & Strathspey and Lochaber, and is an Eden Court outreach programme. The overall aim of the project is to use dance to contribute to the improved health, wellbeing, self-esteem and confidence of residents throughout these regions.

The Body Currents Ceilidh takes place at Dornie Hall on Saturday 30th January 2010 at 7:30pm 11:30pm. Entrance is 3 for under 18s and 5 for adults (18+)

The Dance Catalysts for each area are:
