A Health and Happiness drama group is starting in Nairn for adults (16+) with Learning Disabilities (_not_ learning difficulties) and/or Autistic Spectrum Conditions. Ruby Worth, Eden Court Theatre Arts Worker for additional needs community is facilitating the group.

Dates: Tuesdays 9th Feb - 27th April 2010 7.00-9.00pm.

The performance on Tuesday 4th May, in Nairn, will be devised by group members.

Carrie Bates, Nairn Community Connector is seeking volunteers to help group members:

• understand information and instructions
• so they can make suggestions/informed choices about what they want
  to do
• to take part in a performance

It is important that the organisers and volunteers do not take over or influence group members. Participants confidence is built through coming up with ideas for themselves and being gently encouraged to take part.

Bearing all that in mind, the organisers want to encourage volunteers to role model creativity, participation and expressive/other skills, throughout the devising process and in performance.

It can be very satisfying for organisers and volunteers:

• to see group members making choices/decisions for themselves
• to see them doing things they enjoy
• for us to explore creative ways that support them to do more for
  themselves
