Moray College welcomes PhD Student
08 February 2010

Moray College is delighted to welcome Amanda Thomson, from Glasgow as the first PhD student to be based in Moray College UHI.

Amanda recently completed a Masters of Fine Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

This multidisciplinary PhD will encompass contemporary arts practice and the social sciences and Amanda will be making her own work and will work with the Forestry Commission and others to explore how art can create spaces for discovery and how art can foster new understandings of landscape and our relationship to it.

The PhD studentship is partly financed by the Forestry Commission, Highland and Islands Enterprise and Moray College UHI.

Mike Devenney, Principal said

“This is an important milestone for Moray College UHI as a partner in the development of the University of the Highlands and Islands. We already offer a range of first degrees and this will enable us to grow the research capacity in Moray”
