Argyll and Bute has a wide variety of festivals across the area covering all musical tastes as well as traditional dance, poetry, drama, puppetry and visual arts. With so many artists living in the Ardfern and Craobh Haven area it has come to be known as “the Left Bank of Argyll”; it is therefore no surprise that there is a strong emphasis in the festival on the visual arts - this yearon display in the local hotel, cafe, church and homes. The Isle of Bute Poetry Festival has a strong emphasis on workshops in the primary and secondary schools, but in 2005 public events will also feature in Rothesay’s new Healthy Living Centre, and The Discovery Centre will be screening a film related to this year's theme "The Future". Argyll and Bute is one of the many areas in Scotland that takes part in the annual Puppet Animation Festival, featuring puppeteers from Britain and abroad performing in council venues, community halls and schools. One of the area's newest festivals, Helensburgh Blossom Festival, included Japanese dancing and calligraphy and drumming by Mugenko. The innovative Cowalfest (Argyll’s walking and arts festival) features this year an array of activity including workshops in a temporary arts centre, music, a gallery trail, story walks and the Windowshoppers Gallery - 62 shop windows in Dunoon will display work by local artists and well as artists from around the world. Eileen Rae, Arts Officer, Argyll & Bute Council
