Artist's Statement
"Through using medium of video and other technology as tools for my work, I have found that I am not so much interested in its end product but of how. Each piece of technology, like the human eye, has its own way of encoding and decoding information and thus the visual process (in every sense) is an active one... For me it is essential not to approach a subject with the end product in mind or to see art as a problem solving exercise (at least in the initial stages). In this way it seems that my work is about challenging the material, as well as the means, to say something about itself..."
Coming originally from Shetland, Gilla Brooker’s interests return again and again to water and the idea of craft. |
