International Artists Workshop - Artist John Cumming (Scotland)

Artist's Statement

After art college, John Cumming states he followed a path defined by ‘where my curiousity has led’ and thus includes many media; carving, ceramics, printmaking and drawing as well as the written word and music.   As well as sculpture, he has been involved with creating a CD of short stories from Shetland in dialect.  With the aid of a compressor, he recently returned to carving in stone.

Dear John
I think you have stolen my name.
Ilike your work however.
Best wishes

Well that's it then! I feel very sad at leaving the island and parting with so many new friends, but I have no doubt that the energy stimulated here will continue to feed new works and collaboratiopns in future. So many people to thank - Robert and Anthony for having the vision and the commitment to put it into practice - Bill and Jean who have anchored everything that has happened here - Nicky, Alex and Steve, and many others whom I probably haven't even met.
Sincerely
John

Only one full working day left, and so much more to do. The longer we are here the more the environment, and the interaction of the group stimulates new ideas- new possibilities.

The two weeks have been so rich that it is beyond my abilities to respond fully within this time frame. I suspect the real work may take months or even years.
