Artist's Statement

"I am concerned with the mapping and recording of interior spaces.  Visiting temporarily empty or abandoned buildings, mainly residential, and so far, mainly within Northern Scotland, I make pictures using the camera as tool, that aim to capture light, colour temperature and atmosphere, and my experience within a space at a specific point in time.  Most of the locations are remote - a crumbling Lodge on a Hebridean island, or a historic but decaying mansion house in Sutherland with the only British interiors designed by Coco Chanel.  Interested in investigating outmoded or changed belief systems, I am drawn to examining these archaic places which now could be seen to be symbols of a power structure in society that is now shifting and becoming extinct.  My work aims to look closer at these places long after they have fallen out of fashion and out of time."
