Artist's Statement

"I started collecting wallpaper from derelict houses more than a decade ago.  Maybe I'm a wallpaper pirate maybe I'm a domestic archaeologist.  My work is a meditation on the people who lived their lives in these rooms while social change rattled the windows.  The house was their anchor, shelter and theatre, and now only the house remains.  Their patterned walls speak of past lives.  Houses aren't decorated like that anymore.  Maybe we've lost the art of conversation.

I respect their 'absence' in abandoned houses by only video recording and taking fragments.  It is the raw material from which I construct and create my art.  It is in more than one sense, a 'homage'."
