DNA 2007 Programme introduction
The Highlands and Island Theatre Network (HITN) is proud to present it’s first Festival and Forum of International Theatre - Dràma Na h-Alba.
The programme reflects the many aspects of theatre development undertaken by HITN, showcasing the exciting indigenous work which is being made in the Highlands and Islands both professional and community level and the national and international collaborations which are now a major part of our work.
The programme includes visiting work from Sweden, the Swedish companies Vasterbottensteatern and Profilteatern produce very different styles of work. Highland theatre artists and artists from these companies are already collaborators on the Northern Connections and other projects. You can see with Profilteatern’s Bakom Rutan that Tain based artist Dave Smith has worked on the animations for their show. This is an example of the kind of collaborations we are encouraging.
Our Masterclass programme for professional theatre artists presents the highest quality of skills teaching with world class practitioners from USA – Kristin Linklater (Voice specialist), Canada - Dennis Cahill Loose Moose Theatre Company and London - Alison Chitty (Set Design).
The visiting National touring companies reflect many cultures throughout Britain, with work from London with Tara Arts, Wales with Volcano Theatre and some of the most exciting central belt touring companies including our inspiring National Theatre of Scotland.
Our Symposium, Industry Discussions and Meet the Artist events are central to our programme – open to artists and audiences alike with the aim of encouraging debate, inspiration and creativity in examining the nature of theatre in our society today.
