In January 09 we were privileged to invite Glasgow singer songwriter Esther O’Connor to come and spend an evening with three emerging performers, to take a look at some of the complexities of writing and performing solo material. With grateful thanks to the Ironworks for providing an excellent venue, this intimate but highly creative workshop was a great start to the year and a reminder that we have some astonishing talent so close to home. Joined by Tim Joseph on guitar, Esther treated us to an exclusive up-close performance of tracks from her new album Right Here and lent an insight to her already extensive experience of touring and running an independent label. |

| There were some insider tips too on preparing a live set and how to develop confidence in performance, something that solo singers often find challenging in the early stages of their careers. Taking part in the session were Rachel Sermanni from Carrbridge, Inverness based Maryann Frew and Sara Bils, who in addition to her solo gigs also performs with the excellent Lowtide Revelry. All three played some of their own songs and talked about their writing with Esther and with each other, all unique in style but sharing an obvious maturity in lyric writing and vocal delivery. |

| Esther is currently promoting and touring her album, and the single Saturday Man, with great reviews including five stars in The Sunday Express (“…It’s time for KT, Sandi and Amy to make room because this should launch a new Scottish star into the charts”) and The Daily Record, which hails her the new Sheryl Crow. |
