October 2003 Feature: Kidnapped Diary (8)
Day sixteen - Bunessan Hall,  Isle of Mull, Tuesday 21st October

God, Struan woke me up in the middle of the night cos he was snoring so much. Hadn’t done it before. That night he sounded like a walrus who was dying. Tried to get back to sleep but I couldn’t so I kicked him. I got up and hit him in the shoulder. It stopped then after a long silence “What”. Eventually I got to sleep. We got up and went downstairs. There was a sign saying Help Yourself. There was a frying pan and bacon etc lying out for us to cook ourselves. I even washed up afterwards. At the ferry we weren’t sure if we were going to get on it or not.

Didn’t know whether we had to book. Really smart being on the other side of the water. I’d always seen it from Mull in the distance and wondered what it would be like- it was pretty cool to be there. We went over on the ferry. Back on Mull again really nice to be somewhere we are really familiar with. Got to Bunessan hall - it looked tiny. It was fine, like a tardis much much bigger than it actually appeared. I was in a single room for the first time ever – cracking. Struan was next door but had a kitchenette! Met Lee for the travelogue- weird! Nice to see familiar faces after all the strangeness everywhere.

The Show. Doing the show- I wasn’t having the best show. I got on and I was doing it and I was so self aware. I was aware Alasdair (Alasdair McCrone –Director) was in the audience. I was thinking lots of things like I wonder if he likes this bit or if he notices this change here …. Eventually settled into it. There was this double door at the end of the hall facing me. It was completely reflective, when I got to where is the house of Shaws I was looking at myself! Show went fine. Got ready. Saw the Northern lights. Part of set fell, buckled and broke a bit. I started packing the van but one of the trucks went in the wrong way but Northern lights got me through it.

Went to pub. Watched the footie. Devastated that Celtic lost 1-0. Celtic are my team. Andy told me he and Struan had read the review on the HI~Arts site.  I know I am in it but I can’t understand that someone would review it badly like that. I guess it is someone’s taste. But even if I didn’t like the show I’d still have to praise it technically on its merit. I’ll have to read it.
Went upstairs. I was going to go to bed. I saw John Davidson going into another room - the girl’s room. I joined them and sat up talking rubbish having a couple of drinks ‘til thirty minutes to three in the morning. We went to bed in the wee hours of the morning.
