October 2004 Feature: Inverness Book Festival

Celebrating Writing

THE INVERNESS BOOK FESTIVAL brings a diverse selection of local, nationally and internationally known writers to the city.

THE IDEA OF an Inverness Book Festival became a reality after a conversation on the lawn of the Eden Court Theatre last summer, but it was a concept that had been brewing for some time.

The instigators of that fateful chat were Jason Rose, the director of the festival, and Colin Marr, the director of Eden Court Theatre. Both had both been thinking independently along these lines for some time.

It is an idea whose time has come, and if it is not yet ready to stand alongside heavyweight events like the Edinburgh International Book Festival, it offers an attractive line-up of events.

The festival is based in the Eden Court Theatre, with the main events in the auditorium, and there will also be free events in the city’s participating bookshops: Ottakers, Waterstones, Borders, WH Smith and local dealer Charles Leakey.

The Inverness Book Festival runs from 7-10 October. Click the links below to read more features related to the festival, and see the Events Guide for details of events.
