Orkney's many galleries and artists provide audiences with a rich variety of visual experience.
The natural environment has played an important role for many artists, from Stanley Cursiter (1887–1976) to the present generation, and Orkney now abounds with talent. An interesting open studio or gallery can be found in almost every parish and island.
You can pick up leaflets for the trail of artists’ studios, galleries and craft workshops at the Orkney Museum, Orkney Tourist Board or the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness (the main public venue promoting the visual arts). Follow the guidance in this booklet and the local advice given as you travel around - you will not be disappointed.
