Macbeth the Cheese Maker

GABRIELLA HOCKNEY was part of the community cast in the National Theatre of Scotland’s production The Elgin Macbeth this summer, and shares her experiences here

AND SO the glamour begins . . .

We have been rehearsing for about twenty two weeks now, although I’ve only been rehearsing for seventeen, because I joined the production five weeks later. In those past weeks our characters have been cast, we’ve learnt all our lines (yes, really, we have), and Chris and Jeni have attempted to choreograph all of our ‘stage directions’.

I use the word ‘attempted’ because, as Chris tells us, very reassuringly, anything we learn is likely to be instantly scrapped and then changed by Simon as soon as he sees it. Well, that makes me feel very confident that this whole thing is going to go swimmingly....
