Services for Writers

HI~Arts offers a range of on-going support services to help writers develop their work - please read the guidelines, terms and conditions carefully before applying to use a project.

Mentoring

HI~Arts' mentoring opportunities are offered to writers living in the Highlands and Islands at key stages in their development, and the project is not open to general application. If you would like to discuss the possibility of being mentored and to arrange an informal meeting to discuss your writing and why this might be the right time for you to be mentored, please click on the following link: Mentoring for Writers

Work in Progress - Critical Reading Service - Now For Writers From Across Scotland!

Work in Progress is a critical assessment scheme now being pilotted for writers from across Scotland. The service provides free, impartial, anonymous, constructive critical feed-back on work submitted to the scheme via an assessment report completed by one of a specially selected panel of Scotland and the UK's major writers and agents. The report includes,  where appropriate, feed-back on potential markets and publishing opportunities.

Places on the pilot project are limited. See guidelines for full details, and for restrictions on eligibility.

We work on the basis of a one-month turnaround from recipt of submission to sending out of assessment report.   In busy periods this may take longer.

Full details and submission guidelines are available from Work in Progress.

Writing Tip Sheets

We have a series of tip sheets from authors and literary agents to help with the writing process. For further details please click on the following link: Writing Tip Sheets

Writer Surgeries

1-2-1s in person or now via Skype as well!

HI~Arts programme of Writer Surgeries enables writers across the Highlands and Islands to have a one hour-long, one-to-one meeting, and where appropriate follow-on meetings, with HI~Arts Writing Development Coordinator, Peter Urpeth. The surgeries enable us to explore your needs as a writer and to enable us to design a suitable and tailored support for you and your writing.

The 1-2-1s are held in localities across the Highlands and Islands, and can now also be held at a time to suit you via Skype.

Skype calls are welcoming at any time 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. I will answer if I can, otherwise we can arrange a suitable time for a video call.

The skype address is: hi-arts-writing-development
