Under the watchful eye of Honcho and their desire to develop the boys were taken in to record an album in the rather unusual environment of the "Sea Angling Club" - a venue on the island where the band regularly perform. Jori - "It was pretty crazy, we used the kitchen as a control room and the main hall as a live room so it wasn't your average studio". Recording was a valuable experience for the band and the unconventional methods in use meant they learnt a lot.

Collin - "We learnt how vital it is to be prepared when it comes to recording. In the case of most bands funding their own recordings you don't really have the time to work on songs in the studio so you have to know what you want before hand. I think as well it helped having people around at times to give us a bit of an independent view on things - other peoples feedback can be very constructive and can help when you've come to a dead end with something."

On completion of the album Jori and Innes put together a second, more comprehensive tour to coincide with the release of their self titled album which is also available through Honcho recordings.
|
This tour was a more focused affair and involved seven consecutive gigs, starting and ending in Stornoway with visits to Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and two shows in Glasgow - one as support to Poor Old Ben (recent signings to Electric Honey Records, run by the students of Stow College, the label which played a pivotal role in launching the careers of Belle and Sebastion, Biffy Clyro and Snow Patrol) and the second a packed gig at popular indie venue - Stereo. I caught up with Sign Red for their two Glasgow shows to find out a bit more about them and how they sound. The Stereo gig was a packed affair with members of various Glasgow indie starts in the crowd and a member of Astrid roadying for them

With influences like Fugazi, And you will know us by the Trail of Dead and Biffy Clyro, Sign Red certainly wear their influences on their sleeves but they also have a an original more popular element to their sound which could create a number of opportunites for them. This second gig was a frenzy, both individually and collectively the band put on an extremely energetic show. In Collin they have a frontman with enough energy and presence to please big crowds...............
