 HI~Arts is delighted to offer an open invitation to the next Highlands and Islands Visual Arts Gathering, to be held in the newly-rebuilt Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th May 2008.
The last Visual Arts Gathering was held in Ullapool in November 2006 and was attended by over 100 delegates. The feedback from that event asked for more time for discussion and debate, and so the bulk of this year’s Gathering will be in the form of workshops and discussion groups. But there will also be an opportunity to catch up with the latest developments in the key public agencies, regional and national, and to hear from a number of leading artists on their own experiences ‘in the field’.
At the last Gathering the ‘portfolio viewing’ session proved very popular and so we’ve included that option again, and this year it’s complemented by the chance to have a one-to-one surgery with an expert advisor from the Cultural Enterprise Office.
The Inverness area has seen tremendous growth and activity in recent years in the visual arts, and for those who can arrive early, there will be lots of chances to visit some of the fine galleries in and around the city, and there are also two guided tours, of the public artworks in the Eden Court itself and in the streetscape of the Old Town of Inverness.
